Dual Function Influenza Vaccination (Including A-H1N1 Type)

Influenza vaccination, including influenza A-H1N1, for the woman who was pregnant turned out to not only protect the mother, but also can make the fetus grow bigger, healthier, and less likely premature.

The results of the research the U.S. Infectious Disease Society in Philadelphia, presented Thursday (29/10), showed that babies before and after birth will be protected from the threat of influenza virus.

“With one injection, two individuals are protected. Maybe if the mother did not want to do it for themselves, they can do for their baby, “said Dr. Marietta Vazquez of Yale University.

Special to anticipate pandemic influenza A-H1N1, pregnant women become the main priority vaccination. From the 1000 U.S. citizens who died because of influenza A-H1NI, as much as 6 percent of whom are pregnant mothers.

The discovery of the research team had concluded after studying 350 pregnant women (157 people suffering from influenza and not 195) since 2000. Dr. Saad Omer from Emory University, USA, studied 6410 preterm infants born during the period June 2004 until September 2006.

As influenza spread, the risk of pregnant women who get exposed to influenza vaccination is very low, or 80 percent lower than pregnant women who are not vaccinated and premature babies. “Flu infections may reduce the amount of nutrients obtained fetus through the placenta,” said the research team.
